All The Same, I Saw It First

The Tsunami area is one of the most popular climbing destiations in Nova Scotia. Tall Guy V4 and Tsunami V 8/9 are easily the most popular climbs of their respective grade. Every beginner and intermediate climber has been to this area countless times to work these classics.

In this context, it's remarkable that 17 years passed between the first ascent of Tsunami V 8/9 and Ben Smith's Wavelet V9. It's speaks to Ben's gifted vision for identifying projects that nobody else sees.

The Tsunami area is home to one of Nova Scotia's best V8s and almost nobody knows it. Wavelet is hands down my favorite climb of 2018.  It's magnificent. Very unique for Nova Scotia - physically demanding but easy on the skin. Hard kneebar (kneebar pad helps a lot!), powerful underclings, intense shoulder control, and a solid topout. I'm blown away it went unnoticed for as long as it did. Mega fucking props on this one Ben!
